The constraint

Floor-to-ceiling west glazing gave the owners the best view on the north coast and an interior that hit 33°C by 5pm. Blackout curtains solved the heat by deleting the reason they bought the apartment.

What we did

Vertical timber fins set at 62° block the low afternoon sun while leaving the horizon view completely clear from a seated position. Internally, we moved all heat-generating functions — kitchen, laundry, study — to the east side, and specified a pale limestone floor with low solar absorptance.

The result

Peak living-room temperature fell 6°C. Air-conditioning runtime dropped by roughly a third across the first full billing quarter, and the sunset is still the first thing you see when the lift doors open.
