The constraint
The operator needed 40 seats to make the lease work. The shoplot was 4.2m wide with a structural column exactly where the bar wanted to be.
What we did
The bar wraps the column instead of avoiding it, turning the obstruction into the service island. A continuous banquette down one wall recovers the circulation width that loose chairs would have eaten, and the mezzanine adds fourteen quiet seats above the espresso noise.
The result
42 covers, a two-metre clear service route, and a queue that forms outside rather than across the seating.
